Being culturally sensitive involves more than just reading a book and learning facts about another culture.

It means developing a deep understanding of their values and way of life as well. Some of the most obvious and basic parts of our lives may seem abnormal to those from another country. Chips, electricity, showers....these are all foreign concepts to a group of men from Sudan who are in the US for the first time.

Imagine how "silly" it may seem that they don't know these things. Now imagine how "silly" you will seem when you are in their country and don't know things that are basic to them, but not to you.
